Safety precautions are priorities in the public policy agendas of the government of any municipalities and states of Brazil. The increase in the occurrence of robberies and robberies is a constant and requires precautionary measures of combat and repression, after all, preventing and anticipating the crime is cheaper and effective than just punishing the criminal. Thinking about this prevention bias, the Real Parque Novo Norte project, planned neighborhood of Real Urbanism in the north of Santa Catarina Island, includes urban and technological elements to inhibit crime and ensure the safety of the population.
LIVING IN SECURITY IN THE FIRST PLANNED NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE NEW NORTH OF FLORIANÓPOLIS
Real Parque Novo Norte is being built in the region of greater economic progress in the capital of Santa Catarina, with many new developments that attract businessmen from all over the country and with them, people interested in the fields of work and the quality of life of Magic Island.
Care of the security of the patrimony and of the future residents
Natural barrier of 22,000 m2 of preserved Atlantic Forest Permanent Preservation Area (APP) forms a kind of belt around the neighborhood that prevents the approach or possible leaks, making it difficult to invade criminals.
The layout of the lots and the common areas were made to favor the contact between neighbors – on one side of the neighborhood will be the houses and, on the other, the buildings. The Military Police of Santa Catarina created the Neighborly Solidarity Interactive Program (VSI), which, according to Sd. Luiz Gustavo Dechamps, was responsible for reducing 22% of theft occurrences in homes between 2014 and 2015. “VSI can be understood as a project that aims to create a sense of voluntary and solidary participation among residents of the same locality. In order to extend natural surveillance (live camera), the members establish a network of information exchange that reduces the time-response to incidents, “he says. The community of residents in common areas is also important in the fight against crime, since the mere presence of people considerably inhibits the action of the delinquents.
Studies that link missing or poor street lighting to the highest rate of thefts and robberies have been around for decades. In the 1970s, British researchers came to the conclusion that reducing public lighting by 50% led to a 100% increase in theft and 50% in crime rates. For this reason, the public parks and public spaces of Real Parque Novo Norte will have modern lamps – more sustainable and efficient – with lighting designed so that there are no shaded spots. 24-hour watchdogs and monitoring will complete the neighborhood’s security apparatus.
